the variety and tension of life

by Veronika Spleiss

Painted worlds with their own philosophical stories as Hieronymus Bosch or Keith Haring painted them - that is what the painter Veronika Spleiss (born 1993) creates. Over the years, the artist has developed a particular style that has a strongly graphic and narrative effect. She calls this artistic direction Narratio Graphica. "The viewer seems to get lost in the overabundance of details in her paintings, which are located somewhere between comic and Kandinsky", as Jürgen Moises of the Süddeutsche Zeitung writes. The artist often uses abstract and geometric forms. Her painting palette resembles a rush of colour tones full of expressiveness, which in turn seem reduced within a work of art. With the colour and form described, her artworks show a confusion that makes us aware of the tension and diversity of life between order and chaos. From a philosophical point of view, the painter tries to focus on all perspectives and activities of both eventful and everyday life. Instead of chaos, one could also call this diversity " multitude", as the writer Frank Schablewski has said about the paintings of Veronika Spleiss. Order and chaos, or multitude, are opposing principles that appear to be contradictory but also interact with each other and are mutually dependent. Individual figures or actions only become visible in the artworks on closer inspection and open up to the viewer the idea of being part of an environment in which many things are happening at the same time. Veronika Spleiss shows the complexity, contrariness and diversity of life and that every single action or decision has an impact on the whole picture. In a way, it breaks down the limited perspective of the individual. Because what we see in the pictures is a graphic multiplicity of perspectives between order and multitude coming together. It is like Friedrich Nietzsche: the perspectival is the "basic condition of all life".

Spleiss' artistic work has so far created the following art series: Following the Black Lines, Life Series, Perspectives, Paths, Energy and the Invisible Stories. Veronika Spleiss is represented by renowned art galleries such as Galerie Klose in Essen, the Hundertwasser House Grüne Zitadelle in Magdeburg, singulart in Paris, and justBEE in Masevaux. Veronika Spleiss has participated in numerous exhibitions and international art fairs in Germany, Italy, Switzerland and the USA. The painter has been nominated for two art awards, the YAS Award 2020 and the Renate Hendricks & Valentine Rothe Prize 2021. Her works of Narratio Graphica can be found in private collections all over the world: in Japan, France, Switzerland, Germany, Austria and the USA.
