About the Series:

On Being Human explores a fundamental human experience: we are individuals, yet we can never exist entirely apart from others. We live within relationships, families, groups and societies, occupying particular positions within them and continually affecting the whole through our actions. At the same time, the structures we create together shape our possibilities, decisions and ways of seeing. The figures therefore do not appear as isolated portraits, but as parts of a dense network. They resemble one another in their basic forms, yet remain distinct through their size, colour and position. Some stand out clearly, while others almost disappear among the many. The geometric forms represent the human-made structures within which our coexistence takes place. They can provide stability and enable connection, but they can also separate, categorise or restrict. The title On Being Human is deliberately inclusive. The paintings do not depict an unfamiliar crowd observed from the outside, but experiences in which we all participate: closeness and distance, belonging and isolation, community and self-assertion. Within Narratio Graphica, this relationship is not conveyed through a single action, but through the ways in which figures emerge within the geometric order, disappear into the crowd, face one another or come together in groups. The series thus explores the contradictory task of living as an individual among many while remaining part of a shared “we”.
